Understanding your users
Uncovering rich, compelling user insights helps you build better products and services
User research helps you better understand the design problems you want to solve.
Discovering who your users are in greater clarity, and how they use your product or service, enables you to make better, more informed design decisions.

ABOUT ME
Mike Green MBPsS is an experienced and award-nominated freelance user research lead and UX podcaster.
My clients range from start-ups to UK government departments and FTSE100 companies.
I add value for my clients by helping them to better understand their users across the digital design and development lifecycle.
This allows me to design engaging and meaningful experiences for those users, which in turn leads to increased customer satisfaction, conversion and retention rates for my clients.
I love building rapport with people and the world of UX allows me to harness this skillset professionally, which is both fascinating and genuinely rewarding.
I hold a Master's degree in Psychology from the University of Bristol, am a Member of the British Psychological Society, and have lived and worked in more than seven countries.

I HELP ORGANISATIONS MAKE BETTER DESIGN DECISIONS BY:
UNCOVERING IN-DEPTH USER INSIGHTS.
IDENTIFYING CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES.
DEFINING AND TESTING ITERATIVE SOLUTIONS.
SOME OF THE CLIENTS I HAVE WORKED WITH

CONTEXTUAL DISCOVERY
I plan and carry out qualitative research to understand what drives, delights and frustrates users: whether in-depth interviews at their home or place of work, remotely, or out 'in the wild'

STAKEHOLDER WORKSHOPS
I co-design user-centred solutions with users and business stakeholders through engaging and collaborative workshops
SYNTHESIS AND ANALYSIS
I collate and synthesise insights gathered from users in order to identify motivations, pain points, and areas of opportunity

VISUALISING THE USER PERSPECTIVE
I produce clear and engaging artefacts that bring to life the user's perspective for design and development teams
IN-PERSON AND REMOTE PROTOTYPE TESTING
I concept test prototypes throughout the design and development phases, both in person and remotely, to validate concepts and identify challenges or friction points in the user journey

INTERNATIONAL AND MULTI-CULTURAL RESEARCH
I carry out research not just in the UK but also overseas, both in person and remotely
PUBLIC SPEAKING AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING
I am an experienced public speaker and facilitator, having presented to audiences of all sizes in various parts of the world

Mike is an excellent user researcher, and team player. He is great at finding a good balance between working to a high standard and pragmatically getting things done, and produced quality work throughout the project we were on. He's a great teammate, willing to take on work outside his direct area of responsibility when the project needs it. I highly recommend Mike and would be happy to work with him again
Senior Product Manager, Government Digital Service
Thank you for such thoughtful, well planned, smoothly executed and insightful user research. I'm always impressed by your calm consideration of all things and your commitment to getting the best for the both end-user and the business - not an easy balance sometimes!
Deputy Service Owner at Department for Education
Mike is a highly intelligent and respected UX researcher and consultant. Extremely approachable, likeable and knowledgeable, Mike was often called in at short notice to support a project due to his well-rounded strategic insight and ability to clearly communicate concepts and recommendations. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Mike, and hope I can get the chance to do so again in the future
Senior UX designer, HSBC
Intelligent, interesting, and fun to be around, Mike’s got a great approach to work. As any good digital strategist should be, he’s curious about human behaviour and is quick to understand what makes customers tick. He’s professional, has great research skills, and is a real asset to the team
Lead Service Designer, HMRC
Great talk Mike, very insightful. It was a pleasure to meet you and learn from you - and one of the best case studies I've heard of why user research is so important!
Attendee at Digital Experience Leeds conference 2021
The panel was impressed that the needs of the users were clearly articulated, that research questions and sessions were prioritised to tackle the riskiest assumptions, and that relevant research tools had been used to overcome recruitment constraints and quickly answer challenging research questions
